Equra Health has positioned itself and has the capacity to provide a quality service to a large proportion of the uninsured South African population. Equra Health and ICON believe that with their integrated cancer care model, which is clinical protocol driven, patient-centric and outcomes focused, along with their affiliated oncology facilities in all but one Province in South Africa, that they are perfectly positioned to assist government to implement a national cancer care management system.

Equra Health, ICON and member oncology practices have developed experience in managing PPIs in oncology. A successful Public Private Initiative is currently in place between Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) and the Equra Health – ICON affiliated practice (GVI Oncology) known as the Outeniqua Oncology Unit in George. The main objective of the PPI is to improve access to care by providing radiotherapy locally, which obviates the need for patients to travel long distances to Cape Town and being away from home for extended periods of time.
